"For most of us make up is an embellishment for our natural beauty. It’s meant to enhance our favorite features while covering our blemishes. Caring for your natural skin is a must if you want to maintain that beautiful canvas! Here are 5 simple tried and true ways to care for your skin and get the best foundation for your glorious beats!
Stay Hydrated
I know sis, you’ve heard it 1000 times! And you’re going to hear it one...more...time. Never forget, water is your skin’s best friend! Get your 8 to 10 glasses of agua a day and I can assure you your face will thank you for it. Keeping your body fully hydrated allows it to properly flush the very toxins that build up underneath the visible dermal layer and cause those pop up pimples. For those who already suffer from acne this will help reduce the appearance of breakouts and help facilitate the healing of previously scarred tissue.
Clean Slate
One of the easiest (but most important) steps in ensuring your skin stays radiant and healthy underneath your daily beat is to make sure that you always start with a clean slate! This means you need to be diligent in removing your make up each and every night! This will eliminate any clogged pores that could lead to blackheads and blemishes. Yes, I know this is easier said than done but a little discipline can really go a long way in keeping your natural skin vibrant and blemish free. Also, to coincide with this point, choose makeup remover wipes that are conducive to your skin type. For example, if you have extremely sensitive skin, you may want to stay away from scented wipes as they could cause undue irritation. For rough or dry skin, try textured makeup remover wipes for some extra exfoliation.
Foundation Election
Often times “choosing the right foundation” is spoken about in terms of what kind of event we are attending, will there be soft lighting or harsh fluorescence, will there be tears or sweat? But in reality, one of the most overlooked questions when choosing the proper foundation is how will it affect my skin? For some, like those of us with oily skin, liquid foundation may exasperate your sheen and cause an oil buildup that leads to blackheads and pimples. For others, powder foundations may dry out the skin and cause flaking. All things to think about when choosing the foundation you will use on a daily basis.
Pampered Princess
So this one is a fun one! This is the quintessential spa day! A girl’s best friend’s fun cousin. Take the time to give yourself a facial at least once a week to bring your skin back to home base and clear out any build up that may be lurking in your pores. This is your time to try out your avocado masks, turmeric scrubs, and rose waters. Eventually you will find that perfect combo and fall into a regimen that best suits your skin type. Make sure you don’t forget to moisturize!
Take a Break
Last but certainly not least--make sure you take a break from wearing a full face of makeup. Some days you need to allow your face to breathe and go untouched by makeup. Just chill and let your natural face shine for a day!
Creating a skin care routine is an important part of being a responsible and productive member of the makeup wearing community. Making small changes now can really enhance your beats later! "
